Subject:  Re: Multiple domain names
I think you misunderstood the use of the word "host" in our Purchase page.  As far as the FoxWeb licensing agreement is concerted, each different host name OR IP-address used in a FoxWeb URL is considered a separate virtual host and must be licensed accordingly.  Each of the host names you listed counts as a separate virtual host, regardless of whether they point to the same IP-address.  With HTTP 1.1, you can have different virtual servers point to the same IP address, because the host name is actually sent in the HTTP header.

The prices listed in the table at the top of the Purchase page are not volume discounts for multiple licenses, but rather prices for single FoxWeb licenses, covering multiple virtual hosts.  For example, if you want to run FoxWeb on a single computer, serving 5 virtual hosts (different host names), then you will need to purchase a 5-host license.  Alternatively, you may purchase 5 individual 1-host licenses, but this would cost more.

If the only reason for using multiple host names is to capture all possible variations of your company name, then probably the best solution would be to designate one of them (mydomain.com?) as the primary one and have your Web server re-direct all requests to any of the other host names to the primary host name.  This will cause all FoxWeb requests to be made through a single domain, which will allow you to purchase a 1-host license.

I am reposting this question because i am not sure why i would need more than one virtual server licence to achive this.

I am only running one virtual host, and only have single virtual host licence.

But i have lots of domain names registered against my primary domain.

mydomain.com
mydomain.co.uk
mydomain.net
mydomain2.com
mydomain2.co.uk
mydomain2.net

all these domains are alias's to mydomain.com (they all have the same ip, one site). But only the one that is entered in the server name box under the virtual server page is working.

I have read your licencing page and i can not find a mention a single host licence that supports multiple server names, or even a mention of a multiple server name licence, only discounts on purchasing multiple host licences.

To my understanding of what you call virtual hosts, dont i only need the one licence.

You may enter multiple host names in the Virtual Servers page of the FoxWeb Control Center (as long as you have a multi-host license), each pointing to the same program root.

I am tring to setup a web application wich is going to have several domain names all pointing to the primary domain. But the web app only runs if the domain name matches the one entered under the foxweb control centre or you type in the IP number into the browser.

Can you specify more than one domain name per app.
