Thanks Alan. Actually, the field name is ltype and yes, TYPE is a reserved word and I forgot that. I did change the name based on your observation to ltype and it still did not work. In another table I have a field rorddate and a tag ORDDATE and that does not work as well. Anyone have an idea?

TYPE is a reserved word, and shouldn't be used for field names, index tags, etc..  DELETE TAG TYPE and recreate the index with a different tag name.  Better still, rename the field to something else (although this may involve many changes throughout a large application, but it could save some problems later).
