Re: Failed to add Web Service Application

The setup that I'm planning to use is the domain service from yahoo. What they will do is the domain name, which can be purchased for $5, will then be forwarded to another domain name, or an ip address. Now clearly, this is a yahoo forwarding issue tha I need to work out, but calling the following link: http://wwwMyWebsite.com/contactmine2/contact.fwx

doesn't work and simply makes a call to the default IIS asp page. but calling: http://124.221.28.45/contactmine2/contact.fwx is now working (yahoooo!!)

I can setup a frame to hide the ip address from the user, but if you have any other suggestions, I'd certainly appreciated.

On another note, I usually am not too keen on on-line support, but your responsiveness has been better then most phone support that I've experienced. Excellent product, and even a better support.

Your question is not specific to FoxWeb, but to general access to your web server. The simple answer is that you need to formulate your URL so that it references the correct Internet name of your server (either a host name, or an IP-address), but it can be more complicated than that if you are running software or hardware firewalls.

For example, if your server's IP address is 124.221.28.45, then the following URL could be used to access the ContactMine 2 sample application:

http://124.221.28.45/contactmine2/contact.fwx

Obviously, for public servers you don't want to be using IP addresses, because they are hard to remember.

Thanks for the quick reply. After a few IP issues, now I have most everything lined up to do some live testing, but I still have a few more challanges to overcome.

I have not yet assiged a domain name to my server, but can reference it by the ip address. In the case, where the browser is opened on the server, I can access the localhost for testing, but can not access the server(foxweb app) via browser opened on another system on the same network, or over the net. how can this be done by using the ip address?

The FoxWeb setup program tries to detect whether you are running under IIS 6 (Windows 2003) and configures itself as a Web Service Application. For some reason, it seems that in your particular setup it gets fooled into thinking that you are running IIS 6. Web application do not need to be configured as Web Service Applications on IIS 5 (the server that comes with Windows 2000), so you may safely ignore this warning message.

Hello;

I'm trying to install Foxweb 3 on a NT 2000 server and this message comes up: 'Failed to add Web Service Application'.

I've tried to uninstall the IIS and Foxweb a few times, rebooted the system, and still get this message. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?
